“Give a Kid a Lift”, a free learn-to-ski program for school-age children, kicked off last Thursday at the Mt Abram Ski Area in Greenwood, Maine. Thirty- three fourth-graders from the Meroby Elementary School in Mexico, Maine took to the slopes for the first time. A grant from the Mt Abram Ski Club, a 501(c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to snow sports education in Western, Maine, provided every student in the class a free lesson, lift ticket and equipment rental. Newly-established this season, the program is available to any child in grades 3 and 4 in Oxford, Androscoggin, and Cumberland counties either through a school field trip or on an individual basis. Sponsored by the Mt Abram Ski Club, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, “Give a Kid a Lift” is designed to engage children and their families to explore the joys of winter sports and healthy lifestyles in their own community. Additionally, parents and siblings who accompany the third or fourth graders may also enjoy a day on the snow with deep discounts on lift tickets and rentals. Later this season, children from Agnes Gray, Holy Savior, and Rumford Elementary Schools will participate in the program. For more information about enrollment in this program, please contact the Mt Abram Ski Club at skiclub@skimtabram.com or call Maria at 207-875-5000 x312. The club has raised nearly $13,000 to date through private and corporate donations with an additional $7,000 goal for a total of $20,000 to support this seasons’ events.
