CIVIL WAR PLAY-Actors Roddy Royer, Kimball Coolidge, Corinne Nivus, Matt Bean, and Lake Templeton take a bow at the conclusion of “My Dear Absent Husband,” a dramatic performance based on the letters between Civil War Private Stephen Richards and his family in Upton, Maine. The play, accompanied by Civil War songs performed by the Androscoggin Chorale Chamber Singers, was presented to an audience of about 200 on Sunday at Bingham Auditorium. It was the final celebration of “Local and Legendary: Bethel, Maine in the Civil War.” The year-long project was a collaboration of Gould Academy, the Bethel Historical Society, and the Bethel Library, funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, awarded by the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Historical Society.Civil_War_play_Richards_family
