Have you ever wanted to make a quilt but didn’t know where to start? Well, the Cross Country Quilters in Bethel would love to have you join our group! All levels of quilters are welcome, whether you are a beginner or have been quilting for many years, we all learn from each other.
The Cross Country Quilters, who are also part of the statewide Pine Tree Quilters Guild, meet twice a month on the second Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm, and the fourth Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm. The fourth Thursday is dedicated to working on our community projects. We meet at the Bethel Alliance Church on Route 26, across from Telstar Middle/High School.
Along with working on our individual projects, we are very involved in helping out the community. As a group, members have created and donated quilts to victims of fires, baby quilts and pillowcases to local hospitals, as well as to children in the Patrick Dempsey Center cancer ward. This past summer, we donated a number of pillowcases to the Bog Brook Military camp for children of deployed military families.
This fall, and into next year, Cross Country Quilters is raffling off a Civil War inspired Potholder Quilt. Each square is individually finished and hand-sewn together to produce this traditional American quilt. Tickets are $1.00 for one or $5.00 for six and are available in the gift shop of the Bethel Historical Society as well as various outdoor venues around Bethel. All proceeds go toward purchasing materials for our community projects.
Come join a friendly and fun group of women and take part in a traditional American craft. For more information, contact Pat McCartney at email@example.com. – Barbara Dion
